School Profile
Ella Lewis School is a PreK-8 elementary school located in the beautiful coastal town of Steuben, Washington County, Maine. Our total student enrollment as of August 1, 2018 was 108 students. At our school we employ a full-time principal, seventeen full- and part-time teachers, and seven support staff. Approximately 75% of our students are eligible for free and reduced lunch.
Steuben has a total year round population of approximately 11,000 people. Many of the year round residents rely heavily on the sea for their livelihoods. Fishing, cottage industry, boatbuilding, and the Jackson Laboratory are large contributors to the local economy. The people who live in this community are hardworking, proud and thrifty Mainers with a long history of support and pride in both their youth and their community school. Ella Lewis School attracts high quality personnel and provide excellent educational experiences for students.
The land area of Steuben is 74.79 square miles. Steuben is home to Petit Manan Island whose attractions include the Petit Manan Lighthouse and the Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge and trails. Additional trails can be found on the nearby 170 acre Pigeon Hill Preserve.
